I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

We are a nation blessed with the privilege and responsibility to vote.

Join other World Vision supporters as we come together and lift up our next president, the new Congress, and our nation as a whole.

Below are some suggestions to guide your prayers.

Pray for the new Congress and the president.

Pray that they would have the wisdom and the courage to work together to make difficult decisions.

Pray for unity and civility.

As this long campaign season draws to a close, pray that national unity will prevail over political divisions. Pray that our legislators and the president would put aside their differences in order to solve the great challenges that we face as a nation.

Pray for discernment.

Pray for wisdom for the president, members of Congress, and all other elected officials. Pray that they would know how to balance competing priorities effectively.

Pray for the health and safety of the president.

Pray for his physical safety and endurance, and pray for protection and care for him and his family.

Pray for those in poverty.

Pray that Americans would come together to care for poor and vulnerable children and families — in the United States and around the world. In this difficult economy, pray that Americans would grapple with how we can both live within our means and care for “the least of these.” Pray that this would prompt us to make the best decisions for our nation and the world.
